when is it safe to stop sterilizing your babies bottles and water?

Clean versus sterile: All dishes, cups, and silverware should always be 'sterile' or at least cleaned in hot water with soap.  No eating should be done, regardless of age, from unclean dishes, glasses or silverware. I do not understand the question.  Hot water suffices to clean or 'sterilize' the eating utensils we use as humans whether we are babies or adults.

Feeding Babies: Yes, of course, as long as you are not substituting vital feedings and these calories with coconut water. Water like this must be used only in addition to regular feedings.

Confusing question: First, babies can develop mouth burns from hot water so it should never be offered at any temperature above normal body temperature.Second, they have no biological need for water in the first year beyond that provided in breast milk or their formula.

Why either ?: If you have an approved city water supply &amp; drink from the tap there is no reason to do anything special with formula. Boiling would be an issue if you are on private well water &amp; are unsure of the contaminant level. Filtering would also be a good idea. Six decades ago boiling was a common practice with moms who made their own formula from cow milk, but it was done to make it digestible.

Mgt: It should be safe, but the lavender oil is not needed. Avoid using the toys until dry.

Only if contaminated: This infection is generally acquired from fresh water sources like ponds and lakes, and from home use devices only rarely if contaminated with an original source with this infection.

Breast : Breast milk provides everything a baby needs in the first 6 months to a year of life.  Babies do not need extra water.  In fact, young babies' kidneys are immature and cannot regulate the blood's sodium levels appropriately if given too much of anything besides breast milk or formula.  Giving too much water can actually lead to seizures.  If your baby is constipated, there are a few things you can do.

1.) give pear or prune juice - 1oz/age in months/day so in your case, no more than 1 oz per day. Not only does prune or pear juice have sugar which can help soften bms, but also has fiber (notice the gritty texture when you drink it?). This does not mean that you should be feeding your baby juice as a part of his regular diet, but it's ok in daily small amounts to treat constipation.

2.) if juice does not work, then you can try a glycerine suppository which you can buy over the counter. Just cut a pea-sized piece of the glycerine and place it in the baby's anus to lubricate the hard stool. This is not meant for daily use, so if you find that your baby needs a suppository in order to have a bm despite dietary changes, discuss with your child's doctor.

3.) do not use mineral oil, laxatives or enemas. These methods are not safe for infants.

4.) finally, if constipation is persistent and not improved with any of the above recommendations, be sure to contact your baby's doctor. There are some very rare underlying disorders such as hirschprung's disease, cystic fibrosis or hypothyroidism that can cause chronic constipation.

They don't work. : Babies swallow air when crying &amp; bottle-feeding. Till ~ 6 weeks, their intestinal smooth muscle does not coordinate propulsion of  liquid &amp; air. Use the "football hold". Put baby on your forearm, head at your elbow,face down. Press your palm against his tummy, flex his hips, encircle one leg with your fingers &amp; roll him gently against your chest. Tilt head up to burp, tush up to pass gas.
