i have bone on bone knee arthritis. i feel september 18th 4 days prior to total knee replacement. i fractured my femur neck. how longbefore i'm walkin?

Varies: It varies based upon the type of femoral neck fracture you had and type of surgery used to fix it.  For example, in a displaced femoral neck fracture we often do a cemented hemi arthriplastyband you can begin walking on it that day.  In a fracture fixed with screws, weight bearing is based in part on the quality of bone purchase noted intra operatively.  Discuss with your surgeon.

Need xrays/MRI: If there is full thickness cartilage loss allograft resurfacing is my first choice with an osteotomy as needed to unload the medial compartment

Eventually some form of prosthetic knee replacement will be required but should be avoided as long as possible

70 year old female with bone on bone knee arthritis pain just saw orthopedic surgeon in july where x-rays of both knees done .but if we want to get second opinion, is it ok to get knee x-ray again in just 5 months duration with radiation exposure?

: It is unlikely that x-ray findings will change in 5 months. You may get a second opinion, however, from what you described, the patient has osteoarthritis. Physical therapy may help. Some times injections into the joint are given. Knee replacement is the commonest joint replacement procedure in the USA.

both knees not good.. 1 knee is partial bone on bone. left knee is almost bone on bone but bad arthritis. i did get gel shots, but still have some pain. worse than pain is horrible ache in both my legs starting knee down. does it cause this ache?

: Not likely.Ask about reduced arterial blood flow to legs.Especally if you get pain when you walk that stops you from walking but after some rest can walk again to pain stops you. Your body is talking to you. LISTEN and take good notes and share with your Dr.

what would cause both my legs from knee down to ache so bad. my right knee is partial bone on bone & left knee almost bone on bone but bad arthritis. i was given gel shot a few months ago so to walk isn't so bad but when i go bed they ache very bad?

: Try non-weight bearing exercises like stationary bike and a heating pad. If it persists then see your ortho for possibly another gel shot. Hope you feel better

TKA vs osteotomy: Both are options. Depends upon experience of your surgeon, other compartment involvement, ligament stability, alignment.

Knee surgery: If you've maximized conservative treatment, including gel injections, cortisone injections, weight control, nsaids, omega, pain meds, then check with orthopedic surgeon for possible tka, uni knee, or osteotomy.

i have arthrictis in my knees. the left one is worse and tho its not bone to bone yet could i still have surgery on it? i've had couple shots in my knee and don't want anymore. id like to have the surgery if i can.

Depending : Depending on the severity of the arthritis, you have several "surgical" options.  Especially if you have any cartilage/meniscus tears in addition to the arthritis, you could consider a simple arthroscopic "clean-up" surgery.  This is most successful when the arthritis is relatively mild and there are mechanical reasons for your pain such as a meniscus tear or loose body, etc.

Generally speaking, joint replacement surgery (total or partial knee replacement) is reserved for when non-surgical options fail to provide adequate relief, although there are even less invasive options such as "arthrosurface" which is when the arthritis or cartilage defect is focal and isolated.  The smaller area where the cartilage is thinning or damaged can be replaced by a small piece of metal or plastic instead of replacing the entire joint.  Not all orthopedic surgeons do this type of surgery though, as it is relatively new.

Not commonly: Some women complain of aches and pains but these are not typical joint pains. Certainly the joints do not show any obvious damage, swelling or inflammation which is the case in most types of arthritis.

YES: Bone on bone usually indicates an arthritic condition and lack of a decent meniscus between the "two bones" that could make the cheeks look sunken in.
