i have bone loss under tooth number19. will a root canal and/or a bone graft at tooth number18 save the tooth?

Not likely : There are a lot of factors that influence the answer. Most commonly a bone graft or root canal on one tooth (18) won't cause another tooth (19) to be necessarily saved if it is already indicated to be extracted or lost. Unless perhaps the problem on 18 is spreading to 19. A diagnosis and etiology are needed for both teeth to provide a more informed answer. Get a second opinion if in doubt.

i recently developed a pimple on the gum beside my tooth they preformed the root canal on 7 years ago and went to the endodontist and she discovered a cyst next to my tooth and bone loss around the tooth. is this from the root canal?

: The root canal was done to save your tooth. Over the years you developed gum disease causing a cyst and bone loss from bacterial build up. You should see your dentist for an exam and possible referral to a periodontist. You need a deep cleaning and a program of oral hygiene if there is other bone loss around more teeth.

No: Horizontal bone loss is a periodontal or gum problem. That is not treated with "root canals".  You should see a dentist or periodontist to determine why you are losing bone.

Facial Swelling: No, your cheekbone should not be really swollen after a root canal. You may have an infection, an abscessed tooth. Return to see the dentist or endodontist who performed the root canal. If you're not on antibiotics, you probably should be. Sometimes an infected upper back tooth can lead to a sinus infection as well, or vice versa. Be careful...This could lead to a serious facial infection.

Yes: Bone will regrow in the defect. Depending on the size of the defect, it can take a few months and even up to a year.

No: Antibiotics control and help prevent spread of infection. Unless the cause of the infection is adequately addressed, the problem will return. In this case, if properly done rct and adequate antibiotic coverage, it's actually your own body that resolves the infection.

Yes, it does: It can take months to a year or more depending on the size of the lesion.

Infection dependent: This depends on the size of the infection, the amount of time it has been present, the success of the root canal and the proper antibiotic used. Typically a week, give or take.

Yes: Most definitely. Get some antibiotics if you are suspecting infection.
