my mother has a boil like red spot on the side of her right breast. she also says she has one on her legs and some other part of her body. i don't remember where but she's claiming it to be "shingles or a "cyst ". she says it hurts.  wwhat could it be?

Mom should see doc: Your mom should see a doctor to be sure these are benign boils. The breast lesion  particularly sounds troublesome.  Please have her see her doctor.

Recurrent boils: Your boils are more than likely caused by a staph infection.  To eradicate the problem, get some Bactroban (mupirocin) Ointment and insert the ointment in both your nostrils. In addition take warm soapy baths to which you have added 4-5 tablespoons of bleach.Take at least two baths a day and used the antibiotic ointment several times a day hopefully, this should eliminate your recurrent infections.

Infection: People with diabetes often have an impaired ability to fight infection, because their immune system does not work as well as a person without diabetes.  This is particularly true when the diabetes is not well controlled.

...Impetigo..: Sounds like Impetigo, a fairly common skin infection caused by Bacteria. Tends to be common in children in Daycare but can also happen to adults. Could be itchy and painful. Spreads easily over body by contact/Blisters. Treated with oral Antibiotics &amp; Topical Antibiotic Cream. Best to See Doctor for Treatment and be meticulous.

See doc: You may need long term antibiotics, also probably need to be treated for MRSA focus of infection in the nasal cavity. Check whether you have diabetes or other immunodeficiency disorders.

More info: Do you mean a scar from a pimple or from boiling water?   Most scars tend to fade with time , some more so than others.

Staph aureus: It. Could be due to community acquired resistant staph aureus. Consult you doctor for other conditions as well.

Boils: Crops of recurrent boils means that the staphylococcus bacteria are colonizing your skin and causing invasive skin infections which result in recurrent boils. A course of strong antistaph antibiotics for 2 or more weeks will eradicate the colonies from your skin. Discuss this with your physician.

Staph aureus: Is the most common organism involved.  You may be able to reduce the frequency of recurrence by trying to eliminate nasopharyngeal and skin carriage.  Use Mupirocin ointment in nares bid for a month combined with bathing solely with chlorhexadine containing soap for a month.  Do not use other soaps because it washes off the film of chlorhexadine created.
