Boil in armpit: This can be caused by an infected hair follicle or cyst.  A more worrisome cause is hidradenitis suppurativa, where recurrent boils form in the armpit and groin areas.  Watch the boil carefully and keep skin clean and dry.  If the boil bursts and pus comes out, it may heal on its own.  If it gets larger and more painful, a Dr, needs to check it.  Don't lance it yourself; it could get worse.

Sometimes simple things like wearing loose-clothing, weight loss, hygiene, smoking cessation and warm compresses can help to prevent abscesses (boils) from forming.  Once a good-size abscess is formed, however, the standard is to drain it; often this is supplemented with antibiotic and/or prescription anti-inflammatory medication.
