Vit c: Vit c is a water soluble vitamin and our body does not manufacture it so the supply we get is via food resources and the level can fluctuate a lot and is labile. Some patients who have malabsorption syndromes or gastric bypass or who travel a lot (like pirates) can develop a deficiency as well. It can lead to anemia and bruising/bleeding problems and affect wound healing and lead to psychosis etc.

The necessary exposure time varies with age, skin type, season, time of day, etc. Still, vitamin d deficiency is very common.

This is then converted to the active form, calcitriol by addition of an -OH group at the 1 position in a tightly regulated step (regulated by PTH and FGF-23).

Yes & no: Caffeine acts as a diuretic & makes you urinate more. B vitamins are water soluble so you might potentially lose more b vitamins while you urinate. But realistically, this loss should be negligible, similar to if you drink a lot of water and have to pee it out soon there after. Alcoholism is different in that alcoholics tend to drink alcohol to exclusion of most other nutrition & vitamins.

Yes, slightly: Good question. I found evidence that people lose about 5 mg of calcium when they have a cup of coffee-but that is a tiny amount. Caffeine may interfere with vit. D metabolism & reduce absorption of iron, zinc, magnesium & other minerals & increase excretion of b6 & other b vits but it's hard to find solid research on this. However, most sources of caffeine have beneficial antioxidants.See comment:.

The rbp-retinol complex is secreted into the blood where it combines with a larger protein transthyretin. The transthyretin-rbp-retinol complex circulates in the blood, delivering the retinol to tissues.
