Normal: Girls usually begin puberty between the ages of 8 and 13 years old. The earliest sign of puberty in most girls is the development of breast "buds," nickel-sized bumps under the nipple. Coarse hair may also appear in the pubic areas or under the arms. Most girls get their first period within 2-3 years after the development of breast buds. All of this is normal and should be discussed with the child

what should you do for a cracked bone in a 9 year old boys back? my 9 year old grandson fell while playing basketball. took him to the er cuz he was in a lot of pain. doctors said he cracked a bone in the middle of his back. all they did was give him ibup

Well, : Well, it depends on what bone was injured or broken and the severity of it.  In some areas of the back (such as the tailbone) if there is a mild fracture without displacement, it is just treated with rest and anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen.  If you have any specific questions about your son's condition such as what the exact injury was, you should call his doctor to discuss.  Good luck!

up to what age can boys be circumcised,i have 7 & 9 year old!

No limits, but...: Circumcision is unnecessary if normal, adequate hygiene is done. Boys are born complete, finished, and perfectly fine (except for the few unlucky ones with birth defects). Circumcisions are done for religious and cultural reasons, but the procedure does permanently change the genitals, so parents should think about it and talk about it before doing anything to their normal little boys.

Deodorant: I would recommend standard women's deodorant and being sure she is actually bathing correctly (soaping body and shampooing hair).  Children of this age group often need to be taught hygiene with supervision to ensure proper adherence.

There are several : Options available to control or minimize a scoliosis in a child but that is dependent on the type of scoliosis, its location, degree, severity, progression risk and age of the child as well as the health of that child.  The options really have to be discussed by an orthopaedic spine surgeon who knows the patient in terms of the exam, imaging studies and medical history.

hi this is regarding my 9 year old daughter. we took her to the doctors on friday as she has warts popping up on her body. they said it was "molluscum contagiosum" however more has popped up since friday. some on her private parts. is this normal?

Should be seen: With a sore throat,fever&amp; a rash-even tho not itchy and not red , shd still be examined and strep throat ruled out by rapid test and a culture. Shd be treated with amoxicillin if rapid test is positive.

my son has started grade r this year. his behaviour has changed dramtically since last year in preschool.he refuses to listen to the teacher and he gets emotional when repremanted.my  9yr old boy is fine.  what to you recomend? dr or psychologist?

Likely both: The situation is suggestive of learning issue/confusion in the kid. I would start with his regular doc who can rule out any medical/physical issue that would impair learning. S/he would likely know who in your region is available to assess a child with these problems. There may be a need for both to work with the kid over time.

Usually yes: A great deal of ethnic & geographic variation in early onset occurs, but overweight girls are especially prone to age 9 or 10 menses.  A pediatric examination & blood tests can confirm that it is normal for a given girl.
