i fell on my wrist playing sport. there was little swelling but a lot of purple/blue bruising could it still be serious?

X-ray to be sure: Unless there is an obvious deformity you may not be able to tell the difference with the naked eye. While a sprain is an injury to the ligaments of the wrist, and a fracture is damage to the bone, strains of muscles and tendons are also possible. In any case, common symptoms may be pain, limited strength/ motion, swelling, and/ or bruising. Have an x-ray to be sure!

Yes: You at least need to have an x-ray to make sure that youdo not have a fracture.

Head injury?: If you have bruising under both eyes and have recently had a head injury you need to get checked out by a doctor right away as this could be related to a skull fracture. If you just notice prominent blood vessels under your eyes this is a cosmetic issue you should talk with your doctor about.

Hemoglobin breakdown: Bruising means break in small blood vessels under the skin and leakage of some blood around those vessels. Slowly the red blood cells that have leaked out begin to rupture and release their hemoglobin which itself begins slowly to disintegrate into colorful byproducts

i dropped a very heavy snow globe on my foot a week ago. it cut my foot. now my entire foot is blue from the bruising, but where the cut is has formed a small knot. i'm worried because the globe contained ethylene glycol?

: Ethylene glycol is only toxic if you ingest it and the systemic toxicity occurs acutely.

my gf has an acid reflux problem and it causes her to vomit bad. now when she throws up, the surrounding part of her eyes turn a really dark red/blue black. similar to bruising. is this normal? she had lab tests and ct scans, but nothing found?

Gastroenterologist: The small blood vessels bursting around her eyes is a testament to severe vomiting which I feel is not a usual feature of uncomplicated GERD. I strongly recommend a consultation with a gastroenterologist for accurate diagnosis and appropriate testing, treatment and follow-up care. A gastroscopic examination, in my opinion, would shed much more !ight on her problem than a CT scan.

Localized bleeding: Bruises or hematomas are actually localized areas of bleeding from direct trauma to the involved area. The coloration is initially very dark (black and blue) but quickly fades to lighter shades as the body and local tissues metabolize and breakdown the millions of red cells that make up the bruise.  Darker coloration correlates with a  denser volume of bleeding.

many reasons: Sometimes these are just normal. If you take a baby Aspirin they are more common. If you get a lot of them then you need to see your doctor to make sure there is no problem. Even a slight bruise can cause them sometimes.

my both shoulders have turned blue, but it isn't a bruise b/c it isn't painful & as i am hemophiliac so i know the difference. what can be the cause?

Ink: I have a patient with the same question and it turned out to be ink that rubbed off  from  some new clothes. See if you  can scrub some of it off.
