i just received my blood test results and my platelet count is 429....how concerned should i be?  someone said i could have cancer!!!!!!!

Follow it: Some folks run a high platelet count. The reference range for most labs is set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. The most common cause of a relatively high platelet count like yours is beginning iron deficiency and it can happen before you actually become anemic. Your physician knows whether to screen -- he/she will ask about diet, female loss, maybe check for bleeding

Many things.: High platelets can occur with bleeding, iron deficiency and inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis.  They can be high due to a blood disorder (myeloproliferative neoplasia).  Platelets also can be elevated in response to serious illnesses.  The cause should be investigated, found and if possible treated.

High WBC count.: In what you’ve provided here, your WBC count is high, which in and of itself could suggest infection or inflammation.  The platelet count is likewise high, but this could be just reactive (the platelet count is an acute phase reactant) or it could mean that the bone marrow is generally proliferative.  Not enough here to really.hazard a guess.

Probably: The slight increase in ast/alt may be medication related, but the thrombocytosis can definitely be related to stress response of acute illness.

Need evaluation: High PLT and WBC can be from cancer or inflammation (eg, pneumonia, rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis, etc). I'm not sure what "leukemia blood test" is.  Needs further evaluation beyond the the character limits here.

How low is it: It becomes critical when you count starts to fall to the 20 range. The platelets change in number every day sometimes viruses and other illnesses lower it temporarily You should re check the level in a few weeks and be followed by an internist or hematologist

No: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your result is not a cause for concern. Your doctor can repeat the test in a few months.
