Depends: If you're normal and have been normal, (and 19), once a year is plenty. For someone with high blood pressure who's titrating a new medicine, once or twice a day until regulated is also reasonable. Once it's regulated, a few times a years is reasonable. There's really no right or wrong answer here.  Other docs may give you different, equally valid opinions.

Need to confirm: Ideal blood pressure is 120/80. However a reading of up to 140/90 is acceptable, provided you have no other medical problems or risk factors. Your blood pressure is elevated. See your doctor for a full assessment. A 24 hr ambulatory blood pressure will be valuable in confirming diagnosis of hypertension. Best wishes.

Great question: Many people do it wrong! you must be at complete rest for 10 minutes or so. An ideal way is to put the cuff in your lap (so you don't have to get up and walk someplace to get it), watch tv, and when the commercial comes on, slip the cuff over your arm, record your bp, wait a minute or 2, and repeat it.  Average the results. This will give you an accurate measure!

Treat  hypertension: If you have hypertension, either systolic or diastolic, be sure you follow a low sodium diet, exercise and be in ideal body weight. If you need medicines: Take them REGULARLY. There are NO shortcuts
IF you are going to measure your BP be sure you use the right technique after resting for a few minutes and do it with reliable BP machine. Trust your doctors

See psychiatrist : I imagine there is some reason for your concern to be checking your BP  frequently. Blood pressure checks are non-invasive and harmless, so the only thing that frequent BP checks will do is waste your time if the BP is normal. Your anxiety may be the reason for abnormal BP's, so you need to find a way to relieve your anxiety safely. I suggest you discuss your stress issues with an MD, seek relief
