Shouldn't: Urinary tract infections should not cause confusion except in the elderly or if associated with septicemia and severe sepsis. If a patient suffers from confusion they should be immediately evaluated by a physician to evaluate for serious illness.

Yes, : Yes, these are two terms for the same thing.  Uti(urinary tract infection) is the medical term, while bladder infection is the lay term.

Both refer to a bacterial infection of  the urinary system that is characterized by some of the follwoing: urinary frequency, burning, hesitancy, cramping, and with ascending infection to the kidney with fevers/chills, sweats and back pain.

Uti's need to be treated with antibiotics, so you should call your doctor if you suspect one.  Cranberry juice has been shown to help fight certain types of uti.

i had emergency laparoscopic gall bladder removal 6 days ago. my alt was 181, ast 127, ap 163, glucose 168, and lipase 9. 1mo. before, all were normal. they did not retest my blood. now i have uti & given cedifinir. afraid it will affect liver.

LFT's: I would not worry about that particular antibiotic in this setting, but I do think it is important at some point, when ever your surgeon deems most appropriate, to recheck the liver tests to be sure that they normalize. If they do, and if  your bile duct was normal in size, you should be fine. Good luck.

Avoiding : Avoiding urinating frequently can indeed lead to bladder and other urinary tract infections.
 Most urinary infections occur when bacteria on the skin advance up the urinary opening (urethra) to the bladder, where they can begin to multiply.  This is a particular issue for women, where the distance between the skin and the bladder is relatively short.
 One of the body's major defenses against ascending bacteria is emptying the bladder.  The stream of urine washes away bacteria that are trying to move up the urethra.  Additionally, frequent full bladder emptying makes it more difficult for bacteria to establish a stable population (colonization) in the bladder.
 Out of social habit or due to work demands, many people try to go as long as possible between bathroom breaks.  However, this predisposes to urinary infections, as the protective flushing action is lost.
 Maintaining a high fluid intake and urinating at least every 2 hours during the day helps prevent urinary infections.  For people with frequent and recurrent infections, this change can be quite effective.

Stay hydrated: There is no sure-fire way to prevent uti's.  Some things that may help include:  don't wait too long (e.g. Not more than 3-4 hours) between urinations, empty the bladder soon after intercourse, and clean carefully after bowel movements.  

Although there are no research studies, these are commone sense things that may help reduce the incidence of uti's.

Female UTI: Urinary tract infection very common in females as the urinary tract is short . Also in my practice I have seen safe hygiene is very important to prevent getting repeated urinary infection in females. Females should always use wet wipes and from front to back. This practice I have recommened to all my female patients and seen improved outcome.
