can a blocked saliva gland affect tongue movement?

Accepted Answer

No: A blockage - usually a stone from a condition called sialadenitis - can cause local irritation and even mild local swelling. But your tongue movement would not be affected. You can suck on lemon drops and see if that removes the stone. A firm or hard swelling that affects tongue movement needs to be checked right away for possible tumor mass. Hope that helps.

R/O TONSILLITIS: The linguiar tonsils are underneath the tongue. You need an exam and throat culture and empirical antibiotics if linguiar TONSILITIS is suspected get evaluated promptly, if it does not respond to antibiotics , then ENT consult is needed.

Good idea.: It may be nothing but a blocked salivary gland. Stop any drying medications you may be taking like decongestants (sudafed, afrin, (oxymetazoline) etc).  Drink more fluids (without caffeine or calories), suck on lemon drops to make more saliva and keep your appointment.

i've constant overactive saliva glands at the base of my tongue which feels thick.  it started 6 weeks ago  after acute pancreatitis. will it settle?

Usually does: usually it does.try to hydrate yourself with a lot of water.when you eat chew very well.anr eat slowly,as I said usually it goes away.if not ask your doctor.

when taking an initial bite of something delicious i get this deep sharp pain under tongue both sides, like my saliva glands have gone into overdrive. had it on and off since being a child. does everyone get this? it goes away after a while of eating?

Many possibilities: It's best not to panic before you get checked since there are many types of red sores and white dots that occur in the mouth.  There are many types of lesions that are found under the tongue other than herpes.  Diagnosis of herpes in the mouth involve and exam and a viral culture of your outbreak.  See your  physician for the diagnosis.

when press under my jaw by my saliva gland a vessel in my mouth get hard by my wisdom tooth.i feel like something is under my tongue and 2 hard what feel like cyst that swells and go away also in th general area.can this be a cancer? its been 6 mon?

Dry mouth: I would expect that blocked salivary glands would be the cause of dry mouth better than the other way around. You should see a dentist to evaluate the patency of both your sublingual and parotid salivary glands. In the meantime use biotene or some other product to enhance and helpbto eliminate dry mouth.
