Hard breathing: Blockage of nasal passages with harder breathing can make the heart work harder which means more forceful beat and faster heart rate with exertion. Are your nasal passages blocked because of allergies or because of infection? You may need a course of antibiotics if you have a sinus infection.

nasal obstruction: There are a few things you can try to clear up the nasal congestion. Try a nasal saline spray like ocean spray, and a decongestant like sudafed. They are both over-the-counter. You can also try nasal/sinus irrigation with a netipot. If it's not successful or you get more bleeding, see your primary care doctor.

ive used saline drops on my 4 month old for a blocked nose but they only cleared the mucus but still congested.  my dr prescribed floxinase drops for her, are they safe?

I never use them: Vigorous nasal washout (babies never like it) is the most effective way to help. Just dropping it in seldom helps. The other med is not cleared by the drug maker for that use, but I doubt it would be dangerous. I suppose the doc just gave it to give you something to try. Removing  all airborne irritants like perfumes, dust, smoke, etc. will help over time.

i have had a blocked nose and yellow mucus when i blow my nose and a headache around my face constantly for about 2 weeks now. what can i take?

Doctor can evaluate: If it is bacterial sinusitis, it is treated with antibiotics to kill bacteria in the sinuses, plus a decongestant (often a combination such as Claritin-D or Zyrtec-D), and a steroid nasal spray such as Nasonex or Flonase to decrease the swelling in the nose, to allow sinuses to drain better. Persistent sinusitis symptoms may need longer courses of antibiotics or an ENT doctor's exam.

Likely sinusitis: Your symptoms are suggesting sinusitis, which is most of the times viral and symptom control may suffice- for example nasal saline, Acetaminophen/ibuprofen, Claritin. If symptoms persist over 5-7 days or worsen suddenly see your physician.

See your doctor. : Your primary care physician could help you with medication if you exhausted otc treatment.   Stay away from afrin (oxymetazoline) sprays as it could worsen your sinus.   Antihistaminics are good otc.   If your pcp can't help you an ENT specialist is a step up that if medications fail there are surgical procedures that could help.   Stay away from known allergens.
