?apthous ulcers: Without an exam, it is hard to tell you what you have, so best to get examined by a dr.  Your description though, may be small ulcers as those found with a virus that causes apthous ulcerations, etc., ... Similar to a cold sore on your lip, they can occur in your mouth.  If severe, medication can help shorten the duration of this type of illness, but as stated, best to get an evaluation.  Good luck.

Roof of mouth sores: May be a viral infection, a result of trauma, an allergic reaction, from acid reflux, a side effect of a systemic disease. It is impossible to diagnose accurately without additional information and a clinical and visual examination.

Herpes Simplex I: is the most common virus causing painful vesicular lesions in the mouth.  There are a number of other viruses which are less common along with autoimmune diseases such as Bechet's syndrome which is cell mediated and not an infectious issue.  A visit to your PCP and a viral culture of a new vesicle along with a serologic workup for immune mediated diseases would be helpful.

Yes, two!: First, stop smoking! although there are other possible causes, smoking can cause irritation and inflammation to the soft tissues in the mouth and eventual cancerous lesions.  Second, see a dentist to diagnose and treat your teeth and gums before you lose your teeth.  Both serious conditions that need to be evaluated and treated as appropriate.

See below: First  do you have any other symptoms? What color is your tongue? This is usually seen with a tongue that is yellowish or yellowish/green and is indicative of liver or gall bladder i nvolvement buty if this is just on your palate i would see a physician.
