It may surprise you: and others to learn that the time it takes for food to pass from being eaten to being eliminated is about 50 hours (over 2 days!). The average time just in the large intestine is 40 hours, longer for women.  So I suspect you saw one of your red beans, but transformed by passage through the bowel, now appearing black. Stay well:)

Possibly : Possibly could be due to black beans. Black stools the concern is for G.I. bleeding please get evaluated properly by primary care position. Signs and symptoms of chest pain shortness of breath lightheadedness your weakness would require going to an emergency room promptly

Diet and Stools: It is most likely the beans caused rapid transit through your GI system and this was just undigested food.  I see no mention of any symptoms in your question that would even raise the spectrum of a tapeworm.

i have been noticing black bean shaped things, and white dots in my stool.  i was recently treated for tapeworms.  is this a normal side effect?

Evidence?: After you have been treated, your body needs to get rid of the infection.  So you may be seeing evidence of the dead tapeworm, etc.  If you continue to have symptoms or are concerned, best to see your provider.

Black stools: Black stools are seen with bleeding from the upper gi tract-usually stomach or duodenum. Blackish stool can be caused by taking iron supplements or bismuth products like peptobismol. A simple test in the physicians office can detect whether the black stool is from blood or not. I recommend seeing your MD ASAP and getting that simple test done. Gi bleeding is a serious issue.

i was recently diagnosed with gastritis and two internal haemorrhoids through a colonoscopy and a camera down my throat. could either of these cause dark stools from time to time or could it be due to eating black beans or being dehydrated?

: Gastritis - if it causes bleeding can cause black stools, Internal hem. cause red colored blood. Dehydration and blackbeans will not cause black stools. Dark and black stools are different. Darkness can de affected by meds eg Iron and foods. Get stool tested for blood and ask your GI doc to explain any questions

basically my stools have come out smaller and feel like there should be more. when they're soft, they're like the texture of refried beans. i'm going more frequently. basically they're not as bulky. should i be worried? help?

: There are many questions that need to be answered concerning this issue: what is the quality of the diet? Any new medications or supplements? Any associated abdominal pain, blood in stool, etc. So basically you need a visit with a doctor in person on a no urgent basis to discuss this more.

Accepted Answer

Stool Color: Stool color is not important unless there is no color at all or it is bloody.  Melena which is black sticky foul smelly stool signifies blood as well and is important. Otherwise green, brown, orange or shades thereof don't mean anything.
