: Primary liver disease will not be significantly improved by gall bladder removal.  See your GI physician for guidance and ossible other testing such as a CT of your liver and ultrasound of the liver density.

U Need 2 C a GI Dr.: The symptoms that you are describing are not typical of someone who has had their gallbladder removed & is likely unrelated.  They are also of such severity and chronicity that you should make an appointment to see a gastroenterologist. They will likely recommend upper endoscopy to look for any abnormalities that may be causing your problems. I hope you get better soon.

is it true that certain birth control pills (ocella/yaz/yasmin) may be leading to gallbladder issues?

Controversial: Women have twice the risk for gallstones compared to men. Both estrogen and Progesterone increase the risk of gallstones. Several studies have reached conflicting conclusions, one canadian study that suggested a 20% increased risk in contrast to an english study where the risk was 10% lower compared to women not taking bcp.  This suggests that if there is a risk, it is not clinically significant.

: These high liver enzymes, called hypertransaminasemia, are not due to gall bladder surgery, especially with normal ALP , Bili and imaging tests. You should be evaluated by a hepatologist for the etiology of hypertransaminasemia. Good luck!

will a cholecystectomy cause changes in weight? i am very excited to get this horrible gallbladder removed after 2 years of pain. i'm terrified that i may experience another attack after i give birth. after i had my first child, i gained weigth incredibly

I : I am so sorry you have had to go through gallbladder pain during a pregnancy.

There are two sides to this issue.  Sometimes gallbladder patients eat less because they are having chronic pain from the gallbladder.  If that is the case, your appetite may be increased after your surgery.  Sometimes however, if patients are sick with gallbladder symptoms and don't feel well, they don't exercise as much, so you may feel like doing more after your gallbladder is out.

Weight loss is hard when you are having pregnancies and been sick.  I'm sure you are trying to eat healthy, and try to walk a little farther every day for more exercise, but don't be too hard on yourself about losing weight right away after what you have gone through.

"Days": Following laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, most people go home the same day; narcotic pain medication is typically used for 2-3 days; most people may return to a desk-job in 7-10 days and full activity in 2-3 weeks.

Not bad: Usually an outpatient procedure.  The surgeons will use the laproscope through several small puncture wounds.  Recovery is fairly quick - within a week you are feeling pretty normal.

Not unusual: I would advise you to talk things over with the surgeon who removed your gall bladder or ask him/her to recommend a gastroenterologist for you to see.

Healthy foods: Previously you may be getting gb attacks with fried food , now you no longer will get. With or without , gb should be eating lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, less red meats , more fish and required vitamins and minerals , plenty of exercise , and you feel good.

Differential DX is..: ...The process we go thru to narrow down the cause of a problem. In this case, we need to know when the pain was occurring relative to the surgery and the type of pain. If the pain mimics a gallbladder attack, it may be due to a stone in the bile duct. Mild pain early-on is likely incisional pain. Severe pain, esp associated with fever may indicate a complication. Best bet: see your surgeon.
