Minor effect: Fluconazole actually increases the level of the hormone by affecting the liver/intestinal enzyme that is responsible for metabolizing the hormones in your pill. Thus, this in theory, may increase the effect of your pill. However, using Fluconazole is typically given as a single dose or a short 7-10 days course and so i would not be too concerned. Consult doc. Good luck.

Studies : Show slight decrease in effectiveness of BCP on fluconazole.  Doesn't look like it should be a problem.  But be safe. During the time on meds.  Use double protection

Minimal effect : The effects on your contraception are minimal and would not last more than a day or two.

Probably not: I find no record of interaction between these two meds.  Unfortunately, that does not mean one could exist in certain patients.  So i would recommend using foam and/or condoms for the next couple weeks to be sure.

No: I haven't not seen anything written re:  Diflucan (fluconazole) causing the pill to be less effective, etc.  As a matter of fact, the birth control pill does not lose effectiveness in the face of many antibiotics - much to the surprise of many ob/gyns.

i'm on my week of inactive birth control pills. if i take a fluconazole 150mg tablet, will it make my birth control less effective?

Birth control pills: There is no evidence to suggest that it would.  If anything, other azole antifungals (like ketoconazole) inhibit the pathway in the liver that metabolizes your birth control pill, i.e. Make more of the pill available not less.  The only antibiotic that was shown to reduce efficacy of birth control was rifampin, which speeds up the metabolic pathway in the liver.

Still effective: Fluconazole does not interfere with the birth control pill and should have no effect on the pill's effectiveness.

Depends: The answer depends on where you were in your cycle when you did Quick Start. Two weeks is a safe conservative answer without knowing your exact details

No: Just take your oral contraceptive and wait four hours before taking the Fluconazole tablet to allow for absorption.

No concerns.: There are no concerns with fluconazole with oral contraceptives!
