Accepted Answer

Yes: Good for you for checking!  There is no interaction with typical bcp's. Always tell docs that you are on BCP's, to prevent getting a med that does interfere with it.  Some people forgot to list bcp's on their records, which is not good.

i'm about to start on birth control (lo loestrin fe) & am concerned about nausea as a side effect. would taking dramamine (dimenhydrinate) when i take the pill help?

Starting an OC: usually does not produce nausea in most patients especially when using one of the lowest dose pills on the market.  So patients who have not tried pills or have not had nausea on OC's in the past will usually not get nausea.  If nausea lasts into the second pack, try 1. Taking it at night, 2. Taking with a small amount of food or 3. Substituting a different brand of pills or consider Ring/Depo/IUD

Wait two weeks: Most recommend waiting to have sex for two weeks after medical termination to help prevent infection.  If not at least use condems, then discuss contraception with your doctor at your follow up appointment which is typically two weeks.

IUD or Tubal: It depends on what your medical problems are.    With some medical problems you can still take progesterone only birth control method such as Depo Provera.  If you can't take any hormones at all, I would recommend getting a tubal ligation or a Paragard IUD.  Other options would be barrier methods such as condoms, a diaphragm or Today Sponge. Be patient: Usually we say a women who is unable to conceive after 1 year of unprotected intercourse needs evaluation. You still have some time yet. Are you under- or over weight? Are you an athlete? Combined OCs: Combined estrogen and progesterone are typically going to be the best at treating endometriosis, if that's what you are referring to by "endo."  Progesterone, by itself, in the form of pills, shot or Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD is another thought and studies show progesterone alone helps.  Most practioners, however, start with an estrogen/progesterone pill  They are all very similar.  I like Kariva.

Don't smoke: If the label says don't.  They put that on there for a good reason.  Probably a significant interaction with a psychoactive substance like cannabis.

Accepted Answer

Pill or procedure: This could be normal break-through-bleeding while you body adjusts to the pill and will eventually resolve by the second or third cycle.  If not see your clinician for a pill change.  If the symptoms increase or persist, see your clinician.

Ovulation and BC: It all depends on if your body has recovered and is ovulating.  There are non hormonal birth control options that include iuds, diaphragms, and condoms.
