Bipolar Disorder: It may be more helpful to confirm diagnosis over a period of time rather than just a snapshot in time when you are first seen.  Your ability to provide accurate historic information about your symptoms/ conditions can also impact correctness of diagnosis.

currently on topamax (topiramate) as a mood stabilizer and it's not working for my bipolar type 2. i've already been on lithium, valproic acid .any new ideas?

Yes: You have not been through all mood-stabilizing possibilities.  If you're not working with a psychiatrist to manage these medications, please do so.  Tegretol and Lamictal are 2 other options to consider.  Also seroquel -- and latuda, (lurasidone) especially if you're very bothered with bipolar depression.  Take care.

i am experiencing delusions and feeling depressed. i am diagnosed with bipolar type 1. i recently started saphris 10mg at night and cymbalta 30mg. what can i do other than medication to ease these problems while the medicine takes time to work?

Therapy, talk: Depression with psychoses poses a dangerous situation. The best protection against impulsive behavior is to  connect with care givers and supportive friends/family daily.Your med visit should be 7-10 days since starting meds. Absolutely avoid alcohol and cannabis.

Bipolar: If you have been diagnosed with bipolar an have sleep deprivation for this extended time i roiled highly recommend to see a psychiatrist to get medications to stabilize there are no otc to manage that.Yoi atf young person don't delay treatment it's very damaging makes it difficult to treat and will be chronic a lot of good treatments available now don't fear get help all the best.

It's a mystery: This is a disorder that tends to run in families, so we know there is some genetic component. But that doesn't mean if someone in your family has bipolar disorder you are going to get it. As far as we know, you can't 'make' yourself develop bipolar 1 disorder.

The symptoms can: actually mellow with age.   One, you get used to the sx&#x27;s and learn to control them better.   Two, aging decreases the intensity of lots of things, including BP sx&#x27;s (I or II).   Three, the ability to act out extreme mood swings also decreases with age, thus slightly lessening the likelihood of getting into trouble.   Find a therapist, no matter what your age.

Rare but possible: Tactile hallucinations are more common in substance abuse and certain dementias, but are possible in other psychiatric disorders like bipolar disorder.
