i broke my big toenail at work kicking up a roof tile and it mostly fell off but never re grew , instead there is some sort of fungus there, need advice on how to treat

Nail broke off: will hopefully regrow, big toe nail can take up to a year to fully grow out. if you suspect some fungus, keep toe clean and use over the counter topical to reduce fungus population.  Give it a few months and if you see no improvement, see a Podiatrist.

my 20 mth sons big toenail fell off & his other big toe is lifting from nailbed.  no trauma, fungus ruled out, nails are flat/spoon.  ideas on causes?

See below: Onycholysis is the separation of the nail plate from the nail bed.  It can be caused by local problems like periungual warts or fungus (onychomycosis), but the most common reason for separation is trauma.  However, some systemic diseases can cause this like psoriasis and hyperthyroidism.  Have your pediatrician look into these possibilities.

had very thick and brittle toenail from constant walking/trauma. wasnt fungus. constantly brittle and thick. eventually it completely fell off. now its regrown perfectly after years of this. is this common to see? i was surprised it came back?

A culture of the: Nail would be positive if there was a fungus in the nail. Cultures are fairly accurate, but not 100%. There are several reasons a toenail would just fall off, but a fungal infection is not high up on the list. You can put the nail under your pillow before you go to sleep and the toenail fairy will leave you a dollar. It's also a good idea to see a podiatrist!  good luck!

hello, im a runner and i have a bruise-like mark on my big toenail near the base of the nail. its been there for about a month or better, and i still feel slight pain from it. could it be a bruise? im concerned it might be an infected cuticle or fungus

Need to examine: If you did not hurt it and it appeared on its own, it would be prudent to have a doctor examine it in case, by remote chance, it is a melanoma.

derm told me i mightve fungus on 1 toenail and prescribed some manicure (no antibiotic). i put it on several times; broken nail fell off and grew into healthy in 2-3 month. so i dont have fungus anymore and cant transmit to others? tired of socks?

: Yes, you are free from nail fungus for now. It is very rare you can transmit this problem
But wearing socks with frequent washing prevents recurrence because fungus like the humidity in your shoes and you cannot clean your shoes as often.
Washing your feet everyday and keep them dry are good preventive measures.

both big toenails discolored and multiple layered nails on top of each other. worried it may be toe fungus. may have had my toes stepped on in the past. the toe problems have been occurring for a few years now. not really experiencing pain?
