Inflamed tissue: These are your circumvallate papilla( taste buds)  and they are inflamed. Warm salt water rinses and time will heal.

but have a dentist look for a better diagnosis.

Not serious: Prominent taste buds in the back of the tongue are not uncommon or unusual. If you had only one abnormal appearing tongue mass an examination by your physician or an otolaryngologist would be strongly advisable but this is not the case with you.

Let it be: It is unlikely that there is any thing abnormal with your taste buds.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.  Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless.
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

i have large taste buds on the back of my tongue and they really hurt but why are your taste buds bigger in the back then they are in the front?

Bigger: There is a row of larger size taste buds along the back of your tongue.  Anatomically that's normal.  But you shouldn't even know that they are there.  The fact that they hurt is worrisome, see your Dentist.

Swollen taste buds?: Have this examined by your dentist or an oral surgeon. It may be something other than swollen taste buds. It may be an infection. It may require a  biopsy.

It might be nothing and just cause occasional aphthous ulcers; however, it might be a good idea to keep a diary of what you are when that happens, or perhaps talk to an allergist, as some allergies can become life threatening!
