i injured my knee two weeks ago.  i am having surgery for a complete lcl third degree tear with a bicep femoris tendon retraction.  how long until i will be able to walk with crutches after my surgery?

Minimum: 2-3 weeks; however depending on the extent of the repair and time in OR 4-6 weeks is logical. I strongly recommend postoperative physical therapy.

hi, i have a full thickness bicep tear at the shoulder. is there usually swelling, discoloration & visually disformaties?

Yes : There is frequently swelling and bruising if the long head of the biceps tendon tore at the shoulder recently.  The biceps muscle tends to ball up closer to the elbow called a Popeye deformity. The swelling and bruising  will go away but the Popeye deformity will remain unless it is surgically corrected which isn't necessary unless there are other injuries like a rotator cuff tear.

Sports or orthopedic: Most orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine orthopedists see plenty of bicep tendon tears. Ee are your best bet fir finding yiur answers. Unfortunately, as we get older and continue to beat up our bodies with sports and activities, the body can't keep up!

How do you feel?: It sounds like you had two surgeries - one slap repair and another one to remove a failed anchor and cut the biceps tendon (tenotomy).

The one thing that some people who have a biceps tenotomy complain of is cramping in the biceps with forceful repetitive activity. Otherwise, people tend to feel better not worse after a painful biceps tendon becomes detached (surgery or on its own).

Depends on extent of: injury, which can be determined by an MRI. Please seek immediate orthopedic evaluation. If you cannot raise or flex the affected arm there may be nerve damage. Please seek immediate attention.

Tear: This really means that the tear is in the body of the tendon only - the tendon remains intact otherwise.

Try these- apply : Cold packs the first two days then hot compress thereafter. Take tylenol (acetaminophen) or nsaids as needed for pain. Apply ace wrap where it hurts. If it gets worse, see your boyfriend, i mean your dr!

i had biceps tenodesis 2 years ago for labral, biceps tears. then i was overstretched in pt and got a tiny rc tear.  why do i still have biceps pain?

Proximity: The long head of the biceps that you had tenodesed( in subacromial space) lies very close to the anterior rotator cuff( supraspinatus )so if u did sustain a partial or small ss rot. Cuff tear the pain can be in the same location or referred to the same location.

is there a difference between slap tear and bicep tendon tear of the shoulder?

Yes: 'slap' tears are labral( cartilage) tears that occur anterior ( in the front of) and posterior ( in the back of), the long head of the biceps tendon in the shoulder joint(hence: acronym slap).Some slap tears involve the biceps anchor itself( type 2) and can cause pain/ popping etc... The biceps tendon can tear in isolation or w/ the rotator cuff tendon(s)... Hope this helps...!
