Worth a try: Nasal steroid is usually more effective than antihistamine but may take several days of daily use to get the best results. Consult an allergist if this does not work.

Depends on how sever: The over the counter cepacol or halls have a soothing quality, however, cough syrups such as Robitussin (guaifenesin) have a cough suppressant that helps decrease the drive for your cough.  In addition if you have a lot of phlegm you may want to use musinex.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine): One over-the-counter medicine you could try is Benadryl (diphenhydramine). It can make kids sleepy (or a small percentage of kids can actually become a bit hyper), but it can work well on nausea. Ginger ale also helps some. I hope your child feels better soon.

Cold or flu: If less than 48 hours, and there truly is fever (temp &gt; 100.3) then get to a doctor to get tested/examined to determine whether or not flu is present.  If not, then you have a cold.  I'm a big fan of the dayquil(for daytime, duh)/nyquil (for nightime)combination.  Mucinex (guaifenesin) d can help with the mucous, plain Mucinex (guaifenesin) if ur hypertensive (high blood pressure) if worsening, you need to be seen.

Usually not: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor (call first) if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. COVID-19 infections tend to have cough, whereas strep usually lacks cough but has more throat pain.

Symptomatic therapy: Hoarseness due to laryngitis is common with viral upper respiratory infections, like the common cold, and should return to normal after a few days.  Meanwhile, simple measures with warm, soothing liquids and menthol throat lozenges may help.  Zinc lozenges may also help as well as non-prescription cold remedies that target your symptoms (nasal congestion, cough).

Remedies: Hydrate well.   Consider using a warm air vaporizer. Mix several tsps of honey into herbal tea  with a squeeze of lemon juice.  Or make tea with 2 tsp of marshmallow root bark per 1cup of hot water (steep in a covered pot for at least 5 minutes).  Drink several times a day or as needed to relieve coughing.   Get streph  test for bad sore throat.Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water.
