See your doctor: If you have gained that much weight you need to see your doctor asap. I'm not certain what "organic" water pills are, but a more potent, traditional diuretic may be needed.

im on predisone and took my first pill today. its 20 mg. i noticed i gained two pounds after taking it. does it cause water retention or is it something else? im new to it and didnt know if could contribute to weight gain. im on it for a week?

WATER RETENTION: Yes there can be water retention with prednisone as  well as increase in appetite with steroids. I am not sure what happens after just 1 dose but 20mg is a significant dose. Can discuss concern with the doctor that prescribed.

Treat the cause: Water retention is a symptom of some underlying problem. The trick is to figure out what that is and treat it. The answer is often diuretics ("water pills") but the cause will determine what kinds of diuretics or even a different treatment entirely. Definitely need to see your doc for this.

Eat less sodium.: Excess sodium causes retention of fluid.  Reduce sodium intake to reduce edema.

Diuretic drugs: Many different medications can promote increased urine output and thereby get rid of extra water that is retained as 'edema" or fluid in the tissues.  Most common medications include thiazide or "loop diuretic" agents.

i'm on seasonique since i have endo. been on it for years and my legs are so swollen from water retention. would it be ok to routinely takewater pill?

Accepted Answer

No: Before starting a diuretic, you need to be evaluated for other causes: kidney or  liver dysfunction, low thyroid, blood clots in the legs  (which is a risk for estrogens).  Before starting a diuretic for any reason, you need your potassium checked.

Not likely: Terbinafine does not cause fluid retention.
Weight gain is often due to excess of calories in a persona who is sedentary. You need to move around/walk more, do it every opportunity you get. Also cut down on sweet items in your dies....no sugary drinks or juices or deserts. No fast foods. Then you will lose weight!

Yes not uncommon: Water retention can be a result of stopping oral contraceptives. Monitor closely and report to your health care professional if it continues.

Accepted Answer

NO: Never a good idea to use a systemic drug for a local problem. You will dehydrate all your vital tissues and organs. You can damage your kidneys and cause abnormally now blood pressure.  Fluid retention is a normal part of the menstrual cycle and resolves on its own. If you are overweight, that's another possible cause and should not be diuresed.

androgenic and is also a  monophasic. is ortho cept a
good choice for me? on orthocyclen (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate).

Likely fine: As long as you are not a smoker, just about any pill should be ok for you. But, you have to simply try the new one. Unfortunately there is no way to predict which pill you will do better with than others. Ask your obgyn for samples (orthocept (ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel) and cyclen aren't sampled to our offices anymore)
