It might be a bit like asking about the best brand of jeans for people in brookline who are age 37.

Psychiatric Medicat: I would not necessarily assume that an antidepressant is the best treatment for anger. There could be a number of causes.  SSRI's are very helpful for anxiety. However, it would be important to insure that there is an accurate diagnosis before prescribing medication. Is anger related to bipolar disorder, PTSD,  intermittent explosive disorder, etc?  Need to do a comprehensive assessment.

The One That Works: Fortunately we find ourselves in a time where there are a number of medcations that can effectively treat panic disorder (pd). Vou ask which agent is best?  The best is the one that works for you.  Here is a listing of medcations that have been fda approved for pd: fluoxetine, sertraline, paroxetine, venlafaxine, alprazolam, clonazepam, and lorazepam. Other non-fda approved drugs may work as well.

Discuss options: There are a few antidepressants that are weight neutral such as Wellbutrin (bupropion) but there are side effects and issues that must be discussed on an individual basis.  Discuss it further with your psychiatrist.

Not the reason for: the prescription.  The SSRI's are all fair at not increasing the likelihood of weight gain, but are not best for weight loss.  Perhaps Wellbutrin, (bupropion) but I have a small sample size of patients as a measure for weight loss on an antidepressant.  Bear in mind that depression itself often causes weight gain so getting help for your depression at all is likely to help with any weight loss goals you have.

Doesn't matter: If you're taking the right amount of synthroid (thyroxine) replacement, it doesn't matter.  It's the same as if your thyroid was normal.
