Need 2 C Ur Doctor: It is difficult if not impossible to differentiate a benign breast tumor from a malignant one by exam alone.  An ultrasound +/- mammogram may be very helpful; ultimately, a (needle) biopsy under local anesthesia in an office setting is the  most definitive diagnostic method.  I advise you to see your doctor for the appropriate direction.

It depends: There are many different kinds of benign tumors in the breast. 

Hyperplasia, dysplasia, dcis and lcis are known to progress to cancer. 

It is more rare with other benign lumps.

See your Physician: This is primarily determined by a biopsy but the best non-surgical method is an mri. There may be certain symptoms that increase the suspicionsuch as skin dimpling, ulceration, lymph node swelling, etc, but a biopsy is inevitable to establish a definitive diagnosis.

BREAST  CARCINOMA: Breast ca are discovered by feeling a lump after self-examination, breast discharge sometimes are present and by doing mammogram which shows suspicious calcifications. Biopsy will reveal the dx.

NO: Generally fibroadenomas are benign tumors that predcominantly occur in younger females of childbearing age. In and of themselves, they do not transform into malignant lesions. This is determined by other factors such as family  history, genetic testing, calcfications, cellular atypia, etc. That will be a part of a complete hsitory and physical examination, .

But if someone feels a lump it is best to see a breast disease specialist and get a mammogram and a directed ultrasound of the lump. It is not possible to determine what it is based on size, how it feels, and age of person.
