Yes: Usually, Albumin or a mix of proteins are the stuff in "proteinuria". Bence-jones is immunoglobulin light chains and is much more worrisome. It also often doesn't show on the urine dipsticks that are the usual screen for proteinuria.

No consensus: The serum free light chain assay is newer and is supposed to detect free light chains in serum even before they are detectable in urine. The old protocol was with plasma electrophoresis and urine protein immunofixation. It all depends now on the hematologist's confidence level in the new test.

is ig m the same as m protein? if i take a 24 hour urine protein test and i have low ig m will my m protein be low also? will stil test also be able to find bence jones proteins and light chains?

Terminology: IgM is a normal immunoglobulin that is first antibody in response to an infection. M protein is marker for a plasma cell neoplasm, in some cases a cancer. Small amounts of light chains are normally present in urine. Bence Jones protein is an old term for monoclonal light chains, once again a maker of plasma cell neoplasm, and often a cancer. You should talk to the doctor who is ordering the tests.

what do you suggest if my mom has plasmacytoma in upper tibia.we tested serum protin electrophoresis,bence-jones protine,cacium,esr.?

Seek Oncologist to t: She needs to be treated by an Oncologist. Treatment may be carried out with radiotherapy(if there is no other abnormality away from Tibia) or Chemotherapy if she has any indications of Myeloma cells outside the Tibia lesion.
This is a critical decision to be made only by  a specialist (Hematologist or Oncologist)

Trace protein: Trace protein in the urine is never worth working up. You have a few more white cells than is normal but this may be vaginal contamination. The red cells and pH are within normal limits.

More info needed: Please provide more info.  What is the blood count?  Is there any other medical problem.
Are menstrual periods normal?  What meds are being taken--any vitamins or iron?  What prompted medical visit?

Hematuria: RBC in the urine could be either from the kidneys or the bladder(cystitis). Endothelial damage in the kidney can result in both hematuria and proteinuria. Protein content should be quanitifed to better understand its pathology,(Nephriti/Nephrotic). RBC&#x27;s in the urine can accompany protein in the urine if the kidneys are injured. Protein will not be detected as a direct result of RBC in the urine

The basics: It would be a shame to miss diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, aspirin overdose, the early stages of some of the really nasty kidney diseases, and a bunch of other things.
