More acid?: Increased gastric acid often accompanies hunger which may exacerbate your gerd--check with your doc about an antiacid.

I hope you wouldn't: Making yourself throw up is not ideal. Since you have GERD, you want to avoid pizza so you don't get that sick feeling in the first place. Making yourself throw up exposes the lining of your throat and teeth to icky stomach acid that over time can damage them. You have a condition that is best treated through eating healthy food and if necessary, preventative medication.

on day two on ranitidine for gerd. woke up this morning feeling ok but then started feeling sick after taking today's dose, now have diarrhea.

Ranitidine: nausea and diarrhea are both side effects of the medication  and it should resolve fairly soon.  if it does not contact your physician

Medications?: Are you currently on any medications?  Simple over the counter antacids my provide temporary relief and a ppi prescribed by your physician may also help your condition.  You can also try making a log of foods that make you sick and foods that you are able to eat.  Try avoiding spicy foods, alcohol, coffee, etc. Don't eat with 3 hours before bed. Get tested for h pylori. Avoid Ibuprofen & like meds.

i have had some voice change and hoarseness. for about 3 weeks i don't feel sick now but was sick a week ago. i take prilosec for gerd. should i worry?

Possible LERD?: Exposure of the vocal cords to stomach acid & pepsin will result in inflammation of the vocal cords (as is also often seen with acid regurgitation) = lerd. Acute laryngitis may result, but watch out for chronic hoarseness, throat clearing, airway spasms, cough, bronchitis, an asthma-type presentation, & even a higher risk of throat cancer. May however not be reflux so please get yourself checked.

i have hoarseness in my voice for 3 weeks. i take prilosec. how effective is prilosec for gerd or lerd? also im getting over being sick this last week

Prilosec works: Prilosec is a very good option for hoarseness caused by reflux. While there are prescription meds that work a bit better, Prilosec works very well (especially considering it is otc and relatively inexpensive). Of course, other issues that can cause vocal cord irritation (like a recent uri) will make the hoarseness worse.

Gastritis: Gastritis could very well be what is going on. Still other possibilities especially with the diarrhea. If you have any additional systemic symptoms (fever, etc) I would see a doc/urgent care.

hi the doctors are pretty sure that i had covid-19 and i'm recovering. i have been sick since for a month with all the symptoms of covid including the gi. i have a history of gerd. i haven't been able to drink water without feeling super queasy?

Accepted Answer

Common issue: Stomach upset weeks (or occasionally months) after COVID19 is common. May respond to a proton pump inhibitor.

is heartburn always a symptom with gerd? i've had 3 bouts this year of stomach pain, sick stomach, related pain on left of chest. is it gerd?

Yes it usually is: Heartburn is a common symptom. You likely will need to start a proton pump inhibitor like protonix (pantoprazole)
