Not normally.: The most common symptoms of a cold are sneezing, running nose, feeling tired, congestion and scratchy throat.  Additional symptoms can be coughing, headaches, mucus dripping down the back of the throat, loss of appetite and fever (in children).

Yes: Any change in diet can cause gastrointestinal problems.  If you have diarrhea suspected from dietary change - then change back and see if it gets better.

What's the cause?: Not a weird question at all!  "plugging up" diarrhea will not cure an infection, fix an inflammatory process, improve an ischemic gut, or correct a functional issue.  Medical evaluation is recommended appropriate to the duration of your symptoms, associations (bleeding, weight loss, pain, vomiting), as well as your other medical co-morbidities.  Call your doctor please and get checked.

Injury: Insult to the bowel from viral or bacterial infection and treatment with antibiotics that kill off "good bacteria" can cause this problem.  I would first try taking probiotics from the health food store.  The recommended daily amount taken three times daily for one week then daily.  If this doesnt' solve problem or it is too severe to wait then see your physician.

Hard to tell: The most common cause would be irritable bowel syndrome but there are many possible causes from medications, infections, celiac disease or inflammatory bowel disease.  If you have daily diarrhea you should see your doctor.  Blood tests, stool tests and possibly even colonoscopy are indicated for evaluation.

Possibly: Irritable bowel syndrome can be worsened by stress. If the person you were caring for had an infectious diarrhea at some point, you could have caught it from them. If they are older and/or have been hospitalized a clostridium difficile infection would be a definite risk.

Infectious: infectious diarrhea is the most common cause. usually a virus, but also bacteria, parasites are possible.
food poisoning is also common. there are many other causes of diarrhea, if it doesn't get better, visit your doctor.

Lots. see md: Could be infection, parasite, inflammation of bowel, other gut issues, meds, diet ( including sugarless gum, candies etc. ). Bring diet diary, see md.

Accepted Answer

Diarrhea: a sudden onset of diarrhea is often food related, either an allergy or toxic food. It is less likely but could be an infection passed to you. Drink plenty of fluids and if the diarrhea continues to be excessive and you can't keep up with fluids, go to the ER and get IV fluids. All the best.
