Stung by bee?: Is it possible it is a bee sting? Or other insect bite? I would imagine if you injured yourself you would of mentioned that. Try putting ice on the area and see if pain subsides.

Immediate to late: Most often it is immediate to have an anaphylactic reaction sometimes it may take a few minutes. It all depends on how quickly the 'venom' or chemical mediators are released.

Swollen after bee st: The swelling is due to histamine release and influx of fluid which is going to take time to resolve.  Having said that, if it feels better elevated there is no reason it can't be elevated.

Yes: If the bee sting just happened, and you have made sure the stinger is out and taken an antihistamine for the swelling, you could also take ibuprofen for the pain. If that does not help and/or there is any redness or swelling going up your leg, you should call/go to your doctor.

Arthus Reaction: It is evident that your body didn't like the bee and has had a significant allergic reaction to the bites. This is not uncommon and usually represents the blood vessels leaking fluid out to surround any injected bug vomit to prevent it from getting into the blood. I  like to look at bites if they get that intensity of a reaction and be sure infection is not setting in.Have it checked.

You : You had a singnificant reaction to what bite you. You should see an md to make sure that it is not an infection, however.

Think about this: If it's on the lateral upper thigh, think about a condition called meralgia paresthetica.  This is a mild neuropathy caused by compression of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.  It could cause symptoms like this on the thigh.  It is often relieved by avoiding tight belts or losing weight etc.

Difficult to say: You need to have it evaluated. The negative consequences from an infected total knee replacement are immense. Although it can happen, at times redness from a sting is a local reaction as opposed to cellulitis, but i would not gamble.  Be seen to be sure and to get appropriate treatment.

Tricky Bees-ness.: You should be cautiously concerned. Apply a towel wrapped ice bag to the sting area. Make sure the stinger is out and clean the sting site with soap and water. Ibuprofen might help with the pain and inflammation. If there is a history of this type of reaction with bee stings, then be prepared to deal with any escalation of symptoms by visiting the urgent care.

Prolonged reaction t: Unusual to persist more than 1 week, but should resolve in another week. Consider checking with Dr, but notice that "cellulitis" is an abused diagnosis resulting in an appalling overuse of broad spectrum antibiotics. If you have fever, severe tenderness, pus, spreading redness, you probably will benefit from the right antibiotic. Have you used antihistamine? NSAID?
