Rubbing alcohol: Gently wash the base with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Bathing is safe. If red lines come from belly button, see your doctor.

Clean it: The umbilical stump is where 3 major blood vessels supplied the developing fetus with nutrients. When the stump separates there is occasionally residual blood and or flesh. Using rubbing alcohol to clean the site using an ear bud or cloth will help it dry &amp; heal.

No there is no probl: There is no thing like that.If some one is having periods it does not make them any different than others.They can hold the baby without any problem.It may be a superstition by some.

2 weeks: Your baby's umbilical cord will fall off on its own when he's around 10-14 days old.  There's nothing you need to do to it before it falls off except keep it dry.  So sponge baths only while it's still attached and you can finally get him in the bath after it falls off.

Not necessarily: The umbilical stump is made to fall off - after it does there is often very little needed to facilitate it completing its healing. You can use a small drop of liquid soap (not antibacterial) to aid in the remainder drying out - but if you do nothing it will likely be just fine! If it is not healed by the 2 week visit - your provider will take care of the rest.

It depends.: The appearance of the umbilicus (bellybutton) ultimately becoming an "outy" or an "inny" depends on how much of the stump remains on the baby after severing the cord, and how much of it survives. The more stump that is left and survives, the more likely it is to become an "outy".

: They do not test the umbilical cord for drugs. They could find some testing the blood but that is not as accurate as the place usually studied. For that they use meconium (early poops) It is good for detection as early as to the moment when meconium starts to form at about 12 weeks.

Common issue: Babies that are tangled in their cord will generally start to show evidence of distress after labor starts if the tangling begins to decrease blood flow through the cord. It is unusual for that tangling to produce any changes during the stable pre-labor period.Diminished movement late in pregnancy can reflect lack of room as kicks turn more into shuffles.
