Not predictable: When Bartholin's glands are draining normally, no swelling/symptoms, thus people ignore. Your question implies a problem in which normal drainage has not occurred, a gland has become swollen, infected & sore. If it does not drain, then a progressively enlarging abscess may result. If it ruptures, or is lanced, releasing the infection & wbcs, +/- antibiotics, then problem will usually decline rapidly.

Depends: If the cyst is not changing in size, and not causing any pain, they can be left alone.  Some people have trouble with them becoming infected, or growing.  In rare cases, there have been reports of small cancers in the gland hidden by the cyst, so if it is changing in size, it needs to be removed.

Sometimes...: Bartholin gland cysts do sometimes go away on their own.  Soaking in hot water can help.   Frequently they get infected and painful need to be drained.   Many Ob/Gyns do this as an office procedure.  Best wishes!
