Depends: Allergies whether they be food or environmental in origin are rather specific to the person. Anyone with environmental allergies may also be allergic to barley. Before i would clear it for use, i would want some idea of past reactions during use or a food allergy test.

Infection is possible if it is associated with burning and pain.  Less likely are a stricture of the urethra or overactive bladder from stress or anxiety, but these would be considered if diabetes and infection are ruled out.
