Disease of cornea: Any problem with the cornea (the front window of the eye) can be called a keratopathy. Depending on the cause, there can be blurred vision, light sensitivity, tearing, gritty sensation.

SPK: Superficial punctate keratitis (spk) can refer to ocular surface (ie corneal epithelium) irritation.  It can also be used to describe thygeson's spk which is a disease of the cornea causing significant symptoms.  Both can occur at any age.

i got a corneal abrasion following cataract surgery. was it likely caused by the dr/staff? i read about a rupture of a bullous keratopathy but i don't know what caused mine. do i let the same dr do the other eye? i don't want another abrasion?

: By PubMed.gov: "corneal abrasion is the MOST COMMON ocular complication in surgery. Treatment requires pain control, antimicrobial prophylaxis, and close monitoring. Pain improves significantly after 24 hours and should be resolved by 48 hours". If you eventually have good vision with the corrected eye there is no reason you have to change to a different eye surgeon.

the retina specialist says i have exposure keratopathy and is sending me to an eye surgeon, what can i expect? what kind of surgery might be done? partial paralysis this side of my face. eyebrow lift done but need again as drooping blocks vision?

will prendisone help in treatment of a tight it band?

Initially: Prednisone will help reduce acute inflammation so may help initially calm things down.  With the it band, however, you really need to take advantage of the improvement and be diligent with stretching so it doesn't get re-inflamed.

IT band tear: It would depend on the severity of the tear but in most cases this is treated conservatively with physical therapy.

Difficult: This is a tough one.  Itb symptoms can be very difficult to treat and often times persistent pt and time are the best answer.  Topical nsaids such as voltaren gel or Flector Patch (diclofenac) may help.  Consider massage therapy.  Tens units (electrical stimulation) sometimes help.  Lastly, local steroid injections are an option as well.

please explain what are some symptoms of allergy reaction to latex bands used in orthodontic treatment?

Latex Allergy: Latex sensitivity can cause redness and swelling inside the cheeks. Usually this is not painful but may have a tingling or itchy feeling. It is always important to notify your doctor of any type of reaction like this so that non latex bands can be used. Also, no latex gloves should be used at each visit. If you do have a reaction, Benadryl (diphenhydramine) should help.

i've had damon braces for 6 months and in a few weeks i will be getting rubber bands. how much treatment time do i have left (barely an overbite)?

Snowflakes: Malocclusions are like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike.  Average time in treatment in the office of a fully qualified Orthodontic Specialist is about 18 months, which means there are longer and shorter treatment times depending on the malocclusion.  Know that 1)  GP's take a bit longer to resolve malocclusions, and 2)  the Damon Appliance does not provide the magic, the Orthodontist does.
