It is true that almost all thyroid cancers confined to the neck are cured with surgery possibly followed by radioactive iodine.  In young people, many thyroid cancers that have metastasized to other parts of the body can also be cured.   Unfortunately, there are some types like anaplastic that are almost never cured.

Not sure: I understand your question- but if you were treated with radio-ablation or Surgery of your thyroid due to cancer therefore you WILL PROBABLY need thyroxine (Synthroid, etc) for life for acquired Hypothyroidism.

Usually Slow.: It depends on the type of thyroid cancer but the most common type, papillary thyroid cancer, usually grows and spreads slowly.  There is another very rare type, anaplastic thyroid cancer that grows very fast and is usually lethal.

Blood test, nuc scan: Blood tests for thyroglobulin(tg) are very sensitive for persistent thyroid cancer.  Tg is only found in active thyroid cells, and after surgery and rai ablation, there should not be any cells or tg left.  Blood tests for tg can show if thyroid cancer is still present, and nuclear scans with a diagnostic or therapeutic dose of radioactive iodine can show where thyroid cancer is still present.

Find an ENT doctor: Depends a bit on why you might have thyroid cancer.  I would consult an ENT doctor as my first choice, followed an endocrinologist as my second choice.  If you have signs her symptoms of hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, endocrinologist is the first choice.

It can: Different types of thyroid cancer- papillary, follicular, medullary & anaplastic. Just like majority of cancers- stage IV cancer- is considered to be incurable- though treatable. People do die from thyroid cancer- especially with anaplastic cancer where disease specific mortality is 100%. Metastatic mtc  also carries a poor prognosis. Prognosis of the papillary/follicular cancer are usually better.
