Mucus: This can be sinusitis or rhinitis and you need to visit your doctor as soon as possible.

Yes: Have you been diagnosed with thrush of the nasal cavity?  Usually if you have it in your nose, you will have it in your throat or mouth, too.  Do you have white patches in you mouth, throat or nose? Any sore areas?  I would make sure this is your correct diagnosis, as other things (like bacteria or foreign bodies) can also cause odor from the nose.

Smell disturbance: Nasal allergies can cause you to have hyperacuity of smell. Control your allergies with a prescription nasal spray, your symptoms may lessen.

Nasal discharge: With this history I would advise you to immediately seek medical attention preferably through an emergency department. Your history of head trauma, leakage of fluid with probable contamination could mean there is injury to the brain.

Chronic sinusitis: This is very possible, but without an exam and imaging studies that are current it is impossible to diagnose. Certainly the symptoms you describe are compatible but before making assumptions you should be seen and evaluated by an ENT doctor.

Couple things: Could be that you inhaled those substances recently and they just made their way to your smell receptors. You could also have an infection. Some infections will carry this odor which tend to be bacterial. Your doctor may treat you with an antibiotic.

Upkeep: good gen hygiene and daily baths. may use some nose drops if congested.

Sinus issue: This could be because of stagnation or infection in one of your sinuses.  You could try OTC decongestants or even a Nety bottle type irrigation.  If you have pain or fever then check with your family doctor or an ENT doctor.  The sinuses drain backwards down your throat and that might be why you note this at that point.  Another possibility is GI  reflux.

over 2 months...yellow crusty scab forms in left nostril in same place all the time. when i pick it off, the odor is not pleasant. what is this?

Nasal vestibulitis: This can be a chronic condition caused by a low grade colonization of bacteria just under the mucus membrane of the nasal vestibule(nostril opening). Sometimes the hair follicles of the vestibule are infected. This can be aggravated by frequent plucking or trimming of nose hairs and picking at the scabbed area. See MD for help. Usually responds to nasal antibiotic ointment  and an antibiotic.
