What's causing pain?: The liver itself has no pain fibers, as true with brain--either can be sliced with a surgical tool and no pain. The capsule or linings of each organ has pain fibers. Unlikely to have 'liver pain' unless something is irritating the lining. So, find out what's causing the pain, and how to stop it will become clear.  Try the following: stop-if ingesting-alcohol, coffee, hot/spicy foods, Aspirin drugs.

Possible: Superficial veins or t-matts on the chest and abdomen can be associated with cirrhosis of the liver. However, t-matts alone without other symptoms are just that, superficial spider veins of the chest/abdominal wall. Thin patients will limited fatty tissues, very fair skin patients may have more visible veins just due to color. If you note a dramatic increase in t-matts physician review is in order.

Well defined lesion: If a scan without contrast reveals a liver lesion it means that the lesion is distinct within the liver.  The purpose of contrast is to add an agent intravenously that adds detail to the vascularity of the tumor allowing it to be more readily seen.  when such a lesion is found and there is no primary noted we do PET/CAT for further enhancement of the liver  lesion and look to detect the primary

There : There are many signs of liver disease.  Probably the most familiar of these is jaundice, or a yellow discoloration if the skin.  Jaundice is caused by an increase in the level of bilirubin, a chemical normally removed from the blood by the liver.  Yellow discoloration in the white part of the eye (called icterus) is another sign of elevated bilirubin. So is itchiness all over the body, a symptom called pruritis. Because bilirubin stays in the blood, it does not wind up in the stools, which become pale instead of brown.

As the liver becomes scarred by hepatitis c, the flow of blood through it becomes restricted.  This increases the pressure in veins that normally flow from the intestine to the liver. As this pressure rises,  varicose veins form in the stomach and esophagus, and these can cause bleeding. Vomiting of blood is often seen.  Blood in the stomach can also cause the stools to become black.  Another side effect of this increased pressure is fluid collecting in the abdomen (called ascites).  The belly can become markedly distended, and can be covered with large varicose veins.

Liver disease also causes abnormalities in the blood's ability to clot, so easy bruising or prolonged bleeding after minor injuries can often be seen. Of course, this compounds the problem of bleeding from varicose veins in the stomach and esophagus.

Another risk with hepatitis c, but which is not externally visible, is the development of liver cancer. The risk of liver cancer, especially in hepatitis c patients who are still drinking, is increased more than 10 times over that of the normal population.

You say that you are not being treated for your condition.  That is probably a big mistake. While they don't always work, there are medical therapies that can reduce your viral load and with it your risk of all of the above.  You should be seen and evaluated by a hepatologist to find out what options are available to you. You should also have ultrasound or ct imaging on a periodic basis to keep an eye out for liver tumors: if they occur, they need to be treated early, because they can be very difficult to treat once they get large.

Also: if you are drinking, stop now.  That's probably the most important thing you can do to prolong your life.

And finally: hepatitis c can be spread through body fluids.  You should not donate blood, get tattoos, share intravenous needles, or participate in any similar activities.  If you are sexually active, you should use a condom.

Sounds like: the symptoms are those of advanced liver cancer and are very bad signs since NUTRITION is a very important factor in the battle against cancer! The patient's ONCOLOGIST will have the medication(s) or NUTRITIONIST referral to help.

Bad sign?: Your mom's physicians have presumably explained to her that her cancer is not curable, and that the amount of time that she has left is unpredictable. It seems perfectly sensible and the right thing in this situation for her to share the things she has treasured with the people she loves. Perhaps you can help Mom prepare for what will eventually come by cherishing the times you've shared.

if shingles was the whole time localized to left flank and left back, but then on day five it spread to front abdomen, is this a bad sign?

: I don't think so if the new eruption was only on a line wrapping around the trunk&amp; didn't spread past the midline of the abdomen. This means the viral eruption involved only one nerve root that leaves the spinal area and wraps around the back,flank and only one side of the abdominal wall. I'd call your case one of classic shingles which can be treated but is very uncomfortable. I hope this helps

i am 4 weeks pregnant, miscarried 4 months ago. and am.currently in having cramps on my right lower abdomen and inner thigh but no blood. bad sign?

No: cramping without bleeding has never been attributed to increase chance of miscarriage.  There are many possible causes for your pain.
