Make sure you are drinking at least 2.5 liters of non caffeinated fluids daily and supplement electrolytes if needed.

Yes, it could: I would have her checked.  The virus is usually not so bad in children, but in some it could be.  And she could have something else entirely.  If she is having fever and you cannot keep it down you really must have her seen.  Meanwhile, get any liquid into her that you can, and sponge bath if she starts getting fever again.

Hard to prevent: Toddlers touch people and touch everything. That makes it hard to prevent common colds and common throat infections. Toddlers also tend to play with other young kids. Kids cough and sneeze on one another, so it is hard to prevent infections. Try keeping toddlers far away from anybody who is has cold or cough symptoms, but sometimes that is not possible to do.
