Rosacea treatment: Both finacea and Azelex (azelaic acid) are the same medication Azelaic Acid in different concentrations and formulations.  I would recommend only taking one or the other at a time for treatment of rosacea.

Rosacea: Topical medications used to treat rosacea include metrogel, finacea, and the new medication mirvaso.

Retin-A for rosacea: Although Metronidazole and azaleic acid are the most commonly used products for rosacea, neither agent is particularly effective.  If you wish to try something else, topical tretinoin cream (retin-a) may provide you with some benefit.  Systemic therapy with Doxycycline and other similar drugs are more effective than any topical therapy, particularly if you have pimple-like lesions.

Add more: I am a big fan of Finacea.  However, after 5.5 weeks i wouldn't give up but  try to add another medication to work with it.  Many times, for women who flare with their period, i add a low dose antibiotic such as Oracea, 1 pill each day for 7-10 days before the flow starts.  My female patients have had great success with this combination treatment.

Rosacea: The Doxycycline will only help with the inflammation but it will not get rid of the redness.  You will have to do a series of IPL laser treatments if you want the redness to go away.

Probably acne: If it is acne rather than rosacea, response to Doxycycline for adult females is poor, only 10% respond. When they do respond it is in 2-3 months. Response with rosacea is rapid: 1-2 weeks of 50mg a day. You may find that the most effective remedy for you is spironolactone, probably 100mg a day. At your age acne is much more common than rosacea. See a dermatologist.

Try minocycline: Read up on minocycline, in the tetracycline famy. Interesting that their beneficial effect on rosacea is not from the antibiotic activity but from a 2nd hand response due to the way the meds modify sebaceous gland production and decrease inflammation.

You're fine: Much advice about avoiding pharmaceuticals during pregnancy is based on the extreme concern over damage to the child and possible liability even if there's no connection. Retinoic acid products can be teratogens but this isn't. It's considered safe -- it's azelaic acid.
