Must plan ahead!: After having sex is not the time to think about how to not get pregnant. Since nature's goal for having sex is to have babies, it can be hard to fight mother nature. From the man's perspective, after sex, all he can do is pray. From the woman's perspective, she can go to the drugstore and ask for medication to prevent pregnancy (known as the "morning-after" pill), the next morning.

Easy! Talk with her.: If a man wants to find out if his wife is pregnant, all he has to do is ask her, 1 month after having sex. By then, she will have missed her period if she is pregnant. However, life gets more complicated if the woman has irregular periods. Then, a urine pregnancy test from the drugstore will be needed. So, communication is the key!

Contraception: Contraception by morning after pill is not as effective as taking a daily oral contraceptive .  I do not recommend trying to time a single dose of hormone as routine contraception.  It is meant as an emergency measure.

Big fish, spicey foo: In general, there is little you have to avoid with following exceptions: big fish like shark, tuna, swordfish that tend to collect more mercury -  once a month at most; spicey foods - if you haven't already experienced it, heartburn is almost a staple of pregnancy and spicey foods only make this worse; caffeine (no more than 250mg/day); and alcohol.

Two great rules of thumb while working out:  keep your pulse rate under 140 or maintain the ability to converse with your exercise partner!

Avoid straining: If you've exercised before becoming pregnant, you can generally continue.  You should avoid activities which cause you to strain, bear down hard or cause you to become short of breath.  Remember to drink plenty of fluids and wear supportive shoes.  Also, remember that as your pregnancy progresses, you become 'top heavy' and your joints loosen up increasing fall and sprain risk.
