i have a benign lung parenchyma with fibrosis, chronic and focally acute inflammation. i previously had a pet scan that lit up two spots in my lungs.  what does this all mean?

: The lit up spots meant that these are metabolically active areas and not inert scar tissue. A pulmonologist  would have to determine the significance or nature of these active processes and advise you about treatment, if any, &amp; appropriate follow-up.

ct chest w/contrast found multiple tiny nodular densities within lung parenchyma. how serious is it. i get sob when  i bend over or do yoga exercise. ?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: These are unlikely to cause shortness of breath. Most commonly these nodules are evidence of a prior infection such as histoplasmosis, especially if you have resided in the ohio river valley, or less likely tuberculosis. These are known as granulomas. 
However, other causes are also possible. Your doctor that referred you for the scan should be able to determine if you need more tests.

Pica: Pica, or the craving for ice chips can be associated with iron deficiency anemia.  You should mention this to your doctor and have your iron levels checked.

Not likely: Don't believe what you see on TV. When someone is shot in the chest with injury to the lung, it is a life threatening event which can lead to bleeding and death very quickly. Puncture of the lung can lead to tension pneumothorax which can kill in minutes if not treated rapidly with decompression. Not to mention bleeding, or infection of the lung from contamination. Advice: Don't try this at home.

Injury: Any type of injury to the lung, especially chronic, such as bacterial infections, abscess, trauma, can cause scarring.

Accepted Answer

Well, there is the: Chest x-ray for pneumonia and pulmonary function tests for asthma.

Accepted Answer

Variegated: A small tumor is usually tan in color.  With growth, there is usually necrosis and hemorrhage in the lesion that produces a whole range of colors like, yellow, brown, reddish, black.  The color of the rest of the lung depends on the amount of soot deposition in the parenchyma.

are nodules found in the lung curable?

Accepted Answer

Depends On Cause: There are solitary  and multiple pulmonary nodules.  Either one could be malignant, but still curable.  They maybe due to infections, inflammatory conditions, developmental conditions or exposure to toxic dust, etc.  Some of these can be treated and cured. Others may be stable or progressive and not curable.  The cause needs to be determined with your physician's help.

Accepted Answer

Not rally: Asbestosis normally will cause interstitial fibrosis pleural plaques or pl effusions or tumors.

is having pain in the lung typical of copd?

Accepted Answer

No: Pain in COPD is uncommon.  Only the lining of the lungs has nerve endings so pleurisy (an inflammation of the lining) is painful but lung disease itself is not.
