Clinical trials: There are several new meds that are in clinical trials for the highest grade astrocytic brain tumors (gbm). The rtog groups run several clinical trials testing out different medications. There are also some multicenter trials for vaccines against the gbm. Finally, novocure is a recently fda approved option for the treatment of recurrent high grade astrocytic tumors. It uses electric field therapy.

what is the best type of medication prescribed for headaches and pain for a brain tumor patient?

Whatever works: During the acute phase with severe swelling of the brain usually steroids such as Decadron (dexamethasone) are used.  As the process evolves it is important to provide comfort and relief from pain.  Narcotics may be appropriate, but may cause seizure activity and addiction.  Seizure medications may be necessary and may help with migraine symptoms as well.  Often benzodiazepines help with sedation and anxiety.

can you have oscillopsia without nystagmus? is it from a neurological disorder like ms or brain tumor? all ophthalmology visits normal and only happened one time. felt like things were moving ? just started new medication? could it have been vertigo?

: Your one isolated event would not be consistent with any ongoing or future neurological disease, and perhaps was a transient "new medication" reaction. Not a simple answer: The type of drug to treat a metastatic brain tumor depends on the type of tumor.  Drugs to treat metastatic breast cancer are very different than those used to treat malignant melanoma which are different than those used to treat lung cancer metastasis to the brain.

Causes of Headache: Persistent headaches can be due to a brain tumor or due to severe migraine.
You should seek consultation with a neurologist, MRI of the brain is a good test to check for a brain tumor.

Brain Tumors: The most common symptoms of brain tumors that people first go to the doctor with are headaches and fits (seizures). But do remember that brain tumors are rare and there are much more common reasons for both these symptoms. Ct scan is usually the first test we get if is suspected.

Severe: First, those close to the person notice personality change. Untreated, nausea, vomiting, headache, and/or seizures supervene, and if the tumor cannot be effectively treated, death results. Thankfully, many brain tumors are very manageable nowadays.  Good luck.

No and yes: 'fluid on the brain', or hydrocephalus, is sometimes caused by brain tumors, but is not a cause of such tumors.  Hydrocephalus, if untreated, can sometimes be fatal, and otherwise it can cause severe neurological problems.

Not likely: Very unlikely that this is a tumor...Get a good eye exam.
