Aspirin : Aspirin has been used for over 100 years to treat fever. Even though it is no longer considered "first-line" treatment for fever now that we have acetaminophen, Ibuprofen and Naproxen (fewer side-effects), Aspirin is still effective and relatively safe for adults. In large doses, it can be toxic to the liver and increase the risk of stomach bleeding and ulcers, so do not take more than directed. Children and adolescents should not take Aspirin because of a rare illness called reye's syndrome in which Aspirin coupled with a viral illness can lead to encephalitis and fatty liver disease. : I wouldn't make such a recommendation without knowing your full history/exam and other testing. I would have a conversation with the Cardiologist about getting the hole closed through a catheter procedure since it makes you at risk of a stroke.

Bleeding time: Aspirin is an antiplatelet drug, and the bleeding time is prolonged.

Yes: You can take asa, which can be helpful in primary cariovascular disease risk prevention. The usual first line treatment for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is beta blockers. Avoid diuretics.

Yes: As long as you are taking the Simvastatin by prescription and are being followed by your physician it should be fine. Be sure to report any unusual muscle pain to the physician immediately. The low dose Aspirin is also fine.

Usually, yes.: If yo have risk factors for early heart disease, this would be especially recommended. Some problems such as Aspirin allergy, clotting problems, or anticipation of surgery, would make that a bad idea, though.

"aspirin therapy can be useful in women > or = 65 years of age (81 mg daily or 100 mg every other day) if blood pressure is contolled and benefit for ischemic stroke and mi (heart attack) prevention is likely to outweigh risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and hemorrhagic stroke, and may be reasonable for women <65 years of age for ischemic stroke prevention."
