Pop: Diet pop substituted a different artificial sweetener which does not make it healthier but does change the flavor. It is is still sugar-free unlike regular pop

Controversy: Aspartame is a non nutriative artificial sweetner that many people believe causes neurological and GI problems  it can cause bloating, upset stomach, headaches, mood alterations  fatigue, memory loss and more.  The soft drink industry says that it is safe.
As a dentist, i know that diet sodas are as bad for your teeth as regular sodas so switch to water.

: Unless you are allergic to an artificial sweetener, it should be OK on occasion.  The history of sweetener use is littered with concerns of cancer and toxicity from saccharin through aspartame through acesulfame and sucralose.  To say nothing of the evils of high fructose corn syrup.  And the cavity generating propensities of table sugar.  All things in moderation.

No: Won't have any effect either way. You need dietary restriction, exercise, support in order to lose weight. Make sure you're not eating junk food or snacks while you're drinking the diet drink.

No such thing: Aspartame can not poison you. This is based on a crazy web scam.  There is no known toxicity proved with this product.  There is some weak evidence that consumption of diet soda may be associated paradoxically with weight gain, in spite of the zero calories, but the reasons for this if confirmed are unclear and may be associated with eating habits in those who are soda drinkers.

Sugar substitutes : It can be harmful as it confuses the body and perhaps an indirect risk for cancer and obesity.  Eat and drink more naturally such as water
