No: No - poison ivy causes only local contact irritation and will not cause long term issues or problems.  Poison ivy causes trouble by contacting the plants sap - and its not contagious.  However, people can continue to come in contact with it if you don't eradicate the plant.

Itchy rash: Typically one gets a very itchy blistering rash in the areas which contacted the poison ivy.  But one can even transfer the oils to other parts of the body if not careful.  Scratching makes things worse so don't do it!  some people don't react;  they're very lucky!  and if you wash the oils off quickly (within 15 minutes), you may not react.  Use cool water and good gentle soap.

Not long: Seconds to few hours, but definitely not few days .  But anaphylactic shock is extremely rare from exposure to poisonous plants, more common reaction is contact dermatitis.

Contact dermatitis : It can last for up to one week but using a topical hydrocortisone can help to speed the process. Use hypoallergenic soaps and lotions to cleanse. Make sure to wash all clothing, towels, bedding, etc...

Zanfel: Zanfel is an OTC gel that helps remove the poison ivy oils from the skin - try this.  Avoid contact with open blisters and wash the clothing before touching them again.

back in the fall i had poison ivy on my left arm. i now have a red rash the shape of the rash i had and it itches. can it come back? without exposure?

Urushiol: Without exposure to  poison ivy  you shouldn't get a new case of poison ivy dermatitis. But  if  there was any  urushiol  (sticky chemical that causes itching) left behind on clothing or surfaces that could still cause you reacte.

Yes, Doc ASAP: Severe and widespread poison ivy reactions may be nearly as bad as having a 3rd degree burn making you susceptible to infection.   You need to be properly hydrated and treated. See a doctor ASAP. Be sure that all items potentially exposed be cleaned with a laundry detergent (wear glove if you are doing it) to avoid further exposure to the resin.

please help, how much longer will my poison ivy last on steroids?

2-3 weeks : Untreated poison ivy resolves in about two to three weeks. Treated with a high enough dose of steroids for long enough, there should be significant improvement within 48 hours and almost full resolution in 10 days.
