are there any medications for heat intolerance?  i have severe heat intolerance due to autonomic neuropathy (30 years of type 1 diabetes).  i am only comfortable when an ac is blowing cold air on me.

No: Control environment   Wear thin loss cloths and may need to be naked while in house and drink plenty of cold water. Avoid exposure to heat. Presume work up for Thyroid abnormalities was negative

really bad pain on right side of head, it would start in my cheek bone area, then spread to my right temple and down my neck. i've tried moist heat, cold compresses, otc medication, nothing works. please help.

how to deal with arm/hand nerve pain flare ups if cold and heat both make it worse..other than pain medications. it gets shaky/ weak and my pinky becomes purple/blue. it gets to the point i can't even hold a pen?

: The color change you describe usually indicates a circulatory issue, possibly Raynaud’s phenomenon (spasm of blood vessel- usually happens with cold exposure) , though there may also be a neurological issue.  A full evaluation of the nerves &amp; vessels of the arm &amp; hand is important.  A calcium channel blocker medication can often help Raynaud’s symptoms

Increase H2O or redu: You have to compensate the water loss via sweat due to excess heat by either increase oral replacement of water/fluids, or reduce/stop the diuretic, or u may need to do both depending on severity of heat and duration of exposure. It is a rather complicated balance and u must do that diligently or you may get in trouble with dehydration or fluid overload. Use a weight-scale. Good luck.

Soaking in tub: Try soaking in tub first. Next limited use of OTC Hydrocortisone ointment.

Sunglasses?: Sometimes when we go in the sun we squint and contract a lot of the muscles around the face and in the head causing pain.  A simple solution is using dark sunglasses.

my blood pressure is 153/90. with the summer heat coming on and i work as a laborer and im 51, 210  lbs , 5'5". do i need to go on medication?

Bp: Probably. 

The best thing is to get lots of numbers. Check it at different times of the day and write them down. After a few weeks review them with your doctor (bring in your readings).

We know that over time if it stays above 130/80 it leads to bad things like kidney damage, blocked arteries etc.

normal resting heart rate is 70-80. new medication and added heat from working outside, it's now 108-135 all day long. is this healthy? is it not stressful on my heart or body?

: A transient (hours) elevation of heart rate to that level should be well tolerated by your heart/system at your age. If it continues long after you have rested and remained in a controlled normal setting I would wonder if the meds were having an unusual side effect worthy of contacting your doc.

are headaches after giving blood normal? what should i do about them? i gave blood on wednesday and have been having extreme migraines every day since. i have tried using a heating pad, taken my migraine medication, and taken excedrin. nothing is getting

Developing : Developing a headache can occur after donating blood.  It is recommended that you hydrate well for 24 to 48 hours after donating blood and avoid strenuous activity for at least five hours.   If you develop  signs of a possible infection (i.e.,  fever, headache or sore throat) within four days of  donating, contact the donor center. This way in case you have an infection, the blood wonâ€™t be used and it wonâ€™t be transmitted to anyone else.

my son (harshal, 13 years old) has been experiencing a sharp cramping pain on the side of his abdomen, above his right hip, for two days. pain medication and heat packs provide temporary relief only but the pain does not seem to be letting up?

Basics: See if he can walk without increased pain. If he cannot walk without pain or jump up/down on that leg he needs to see a doctor now. This may be appendicitis &amp; need immediate care.
