i just got an appointment to my ob-gyn for the first time. i feel comfortable asking this to a lady doctor. what should i expect?

Just talking.: Most times you do not need to get undressed or have a pelvic exam by a GYN at your age.  You will likely just be talking to the doctor.  If you are more comfortable with a female then that is who you should see.  If their is not a female OB/GYN nearby then perhaps you could see a nurse practitioner.  It is important to be comfortable with your healthcare providers.  Hope this helps.

Depends: What do you want from the visit?  Why are you going to the appointment?  Depends on your age and your issues.  Be open to any and all options.  Is it for birth control, is if for becoming sexually active and responsible, are you concerned with a condition or disease or infection?  Go n with some general questions and concerns and see where you end up.  Don't overwhelm the doctor.  There is a limit.

A lot: You should expect to hear the baby's heartbeat in the office with the doppler. Should be easy to find at this point. You should expect a discussion about the optional tests that are available to screen your baby for genetic issues like down's. And you should expect an answer to your question, "given my history of a uterine avm, how will we monitor this pregnancy for risks related to this?".

High risk: It is hard to predict exactly what you specific doctor will do. Generally around this time first trimester genetic screening is done. Since you are over age 35 this is important. It is certainly reasonable to call your doctors office and ask the nurse for guidance on what tests you are due for at the next appointment.

Pregnant: You should do your own pregnancy test tonight.  If it is negative and you still feel like you are pregnant your doctor can do a blood test tomorrow.  He may want to examine you to feel your cervix and breasts to see if you have any signs of pregnancy.  Good luck!

Routine ob gyn care: Reproductive endocrinologist are specialist. They can help you get pregnant but you will need OB gyn for your pregnany care and delivery. Also your annual exam, pap test etc after the baby is born.

is there a test that can determine who passed trichomoniasis to who? im sure my partner passed it to me but i want to be sure. if such a test exists, whats the name and what do i request from my ob/gyn office when calling to schedule an appointment??

: Since the parasite can be acquired and found in your own stool, there is a possibility you acquired it from yourself. I know of no test that tracks the source of this parasite.

what would you recommend for getting an extremely painful ovarian cyst removed? i visited the er and they referred me to an ob/gyn, my appointment is tomorrow. how do i make sure the cyst get removed? the pain is an 7 and the meds dont work?

: Hop[e they gave you something strong for pain. If you can wait  then take your med and see the doc tomorrow. If not pl go back to the ER since intolrable pain is an emergency and maybe you should be admitted. Good luck
