No connection: Crohn disease affects any part(s) of gastrointstinal tract, mouth to anus including appendix.  The abdominal pain associated with crohn disease can be severe enough to simulate acute appendicitis.

Only in that : Crohns ileitis and appendicitis are difficult to distinguish clinically sometimes.  But these days with accurate ct scanning, it usually is not a problem to distinguish between the two.

Hard to say: The real problem is the difficulty in telling the difference between crohn's ileitis and appendicitis.  Crohn's ileitis is treated with medicine, whereas appendicits requires an emergency operation.  But a ct scan should be able to tell the difference.

Crohn's ileitis: Can be mistaken for acute appendicitis clinically.  These days, ct scan should be able to differentiate the two.  One does not cause the other.  It is possible to get isolated crohn's appendicitis, but very rare.

Not directly: While patients with crohn's disease can get appendicitis, crohn's does not cause appendicitis. The most common location of intestinal inflammation from crohn's is the terminal ileum, located in the right lower abdomen (near the appendix). Sometimes crohn's can affect the appendix. It can be difficult to differentiate the 2 conditions. Best to see a doctor if you are not improving.

how can inflammatory bowel disease cause appendicitis? my friend had appendicitis and his doctor said it was probably because of his ibd. if appendicitis is an infection, how can ibd cause it?

Related. Causative?: Appendicitis is just "inflammation of the appendix." ibd is an inflammatory disease and can certainly cause this.  It would be unlikely that it affected only the appendix. 

Inflammation from ibd could break down natural barriers to bacteria and cause obstruction of the appendix which could lead to traditional bacterial infection.

Many things possible: If a teen guy has uncomfortable right tummy pain and is normally in good health, some possibilities include:  sports trauma, appendicitis (usually has fever), liver problems, gall stones, kidney problems, excessive constipation, stomach flu, bowel inflammation, intestinal infection, nerve irritation, spine issue, rare tumor, etc...  Doctor can follow up and recheck as needed.

Autoimmune: Yes it can be because of autoimmune disease . Make sure your vitamins levels are normal . Take vitamin b12 and Vit D along with multi vitamins . Eat healthy diet and daily exercise

Not uncommonly: Crohn's disease frequently involves the terminal ileum which is right next to the appendix.  Crohn's inflammation here can easily be mistaken for appendicitis.  A ct scan before surgery can often differentiate between the two.
