Unlikely: If you have abdominal aortic aneurysm , ( AAA )  you doctor(s) might have told you , at 26 is a very rare possibility , speak to your doctor.

can aortic stenosis with bicuspid valve be corrected by invasive surgery?

Accepted Answer

Yes: This will require valve replacement if the stenosis is severe.  In other cases (moderate stenosis or less) the treatment is blood pressure control and diuretic use until the valve becomes severely stenotic requiring replacement.  Typically bicuspid aortic valves need replacement in the 5th or 6th decade of life or later.

i am 57 female, have aortic stenosis and bicuspid valve. does the bicuspid valve complicate my surgery.  will my recovery be longer because of it?

No it won't. : I am assuming you will have an aortic valve replacement. A bicuspid aortic valve is fairly common and you've had since birth. The valve can become stenotic over time and at the time of replacement, the leaflets will be removed. If you don't need to have your blood thinned for other reasons, i would recommend a tissue valve. Having a bicuspid aortic valve would not prolong your recovery.

i recently had my review for a bicuspid aortic valve but in a letter i received it mentioned peak velocity of 1.9 ms it also mentioned a mildly aortic stenosis was just wondering how bad or different is 1.9 ms compared to a normal peak velocity. ?

Increased: A velocity over 2 mm/sec is considered elevated, so I would get an appointment with your cardiologist and discuss options on management

Pediatric cardiologi: Who has a bicuspid aortic valve, parent or baby?Take baby to pediatric cardiologist, several to choose in cleveland. Baby needs an echocardiogram, possibly cardiac ct or mri. How old is the baby?Do not waste time , take baby today.

Low: Like all things, bicuspid aortic valve stenosis comes in small/medium/high risk: the  echo/doppler will have a high velocity of 4 meters/second when severe and the left ventricle will likely have hypertrophy (be thick). That is not all there is to it, but you cardiologist can easily piece together your variables: in all probabilty, you are sentenced to life for quite a while.

See below: The accepted indications for surgical treatment are syncope (fainting) which may indicate critical narrowing. Chest pain which may be due to poor flow to the coronary arteries which start just beyond the aortic valve and shortness of breath which may be due to congestive heart failure are the two others.

Nope: Aortic stenosis is, in simple form, limestone forming on the valve.  Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a systemic blood thinner, and while it can decrease blood clots, it cannot melt limestone.  The only true treatment for aortic stenosis is surgery, to be used when the stenosis is severe enough.  Statins have been studied extensively and showed initial promise but that didn't pan out.

what are other ways to treat aortic stenosis besides valve replacement surgery?

Accepted Answer

Not many: Best treatment is surgical replacement. It can be performed through a full sternotomy, a partial sternotomy or a small right anterior thoracotomy. The last two approaches are considered minimally invasive.  Another option is transcatheter aortic valve replacement, only inoperable and high risk patients are candidates. Also balloon valvuloplasty, short term solution, lasts approximately 6 months.
