Accepted Answer

No: Anxiety alone and in the abscense of any other clinical or medical condition shouldn't predispose anybody to have an enlarged heart or cardiomyopathy.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Cardiac MRI would give very accurate info about chamber sizes and motion/function. "Heart failure" per se is a clinical diagnosis.  BUT the cardiac MRI would be able to tell you how well the chamber is squeezing and whether its functioning normally or not.

Stress management: Frequent spikes in blood pressure (labile hypertension)are harmful but may not cause enlargement of the left ventricle such as occurs in longstanding sustained hypertension. I recommend stress management therapy for you as well as careful follow-up by your MD who will guide you on diet,etc.

Not a reasonable fea: If two months ago you had the same symptoms and had an echo and cxr which were normal and you now have the same symptoms, you have demonstrated that your symptoms are not due to an enlarged heart.  You have very little to fear about the heart mysteriously enlarging in the interim.

Don't worry: It's a good idea to see a heart specialist.  However, athletes (including runners) may have a mildly enlarged heart that is normal.  It is best to be seen by a specialist to make that determination.

Yes: Chemo therapeutic drugs like doxorubicin. Cyclophosphamide, antiarrhythmic drugs, beta blockers for hypertension, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, anesthetics like old halothane, anti depressives, and few others. The above categories of drugs can potentially induced or exacerbate chf.

Alcohol : People vary their sensitivity to alcohol depending on their genetic makeup. I don't think that there's evidence for minimum and maximum doses.
